Kansai 2008 - Day 6
Fushimi is a special place for sake making. We visited a shop to purchase Fushimi sake. It is too late to watch sake brewing or take a tour since the breweries are only open in the winter when sake is being brewed.
We hiked up to Momoyama Castle and the Emperor Meiji's tomb. Momoyama Castle (Peach Mountain Castle) was built as a retreat for Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the latter half of the 16th century. The shogunate of Edo in the 17th century demanded it to be demolished but its building structures were donated to temples and shrines in the city of Kyoto.
