How to Fold a Kimono

Kimono should be aired out after each wearing.

 

 
Lay the kimono on a clean floor or very large flat surface. Lay the kimono out with the back down to the floor. Spread the sleeves out so that they point straight out to the sides in opposite directions. Smoothing the kimono fabric throughout the process will eliminate wrinkles later.  
Lay the front right side under the front left side just as if you were wearing the kimono.

Fold the right sleeve towards the center, stopping at the edge of the shoulder seam.

Fold the collar will fold inward and inside to create a flat upper edge.

Fold the right sleeve towards the center, stopping at the edge of the shoulder seam.

Fold the left sleeve towards the center, stopping at the edge of the shoulder seam.

Fold the right side inward to the left of collar along the length.

Fold the left side inward to the right edge along the length.

Starting at the bottom, fold up 10 to 12 inches, and repeat a total of four times. The kimono is now in a storable flat package about 10" x 12".
